![]() ![]() This causes them to lose some of their appeal but will hopefully be corrected with a patch in the near future. For whatever reason, some sound is missing from the mini-games. Some of the effects do stand out though, like the shriek an enemy makes as you devour his head. The sound effects are pretty standard, but that’s not saying they don’t do the job. The sound is not quite as remarkable as the graphics. Dan Paladin obviously put a lot of work into his design to make this an artistic beauty in the gaming industry. The colors are bright and express the world of Alien Hominid outstandingly. While the game isn’t technically impressive, its hand drawn characters, backgrounds, and effects are all brilliantly over the top and entertaining to watch the whole game. While the gameplay is quite outstanding, the visuals are really what make Alien Hominid HD special. It is odd that there is a lack of cooperative support for the main game, which is limited to two players on the same screen. The PDA games and All You Can Eat have their own set of online leaderboards and online play with up to four players, although not many people seem to interesting in playing them. ![]() There are also survival levels that have you battling through an endless stretch of level until you die. By rapidly tapping on the A and X buttons, you must finish the bowl of food before your opponents. Other mini-games include All You Can Eat, which has you controlling a fat kid that occasionally appears in the main game. It starts off relatively easy, but later levels will have you dying often and memorizing enemy patterns just to complete them. These are simple stages where you must guide a stick man to a door while eliminating all the enemies present. The most notable of these are the PDA mini-games. If you’re becoming frustrated with the main game, there are other distractions provided in the Alien Hominid HD package. Thankfully, the game provides you with many of these and you’ll need every single one to get through later stages of the game. The bosses each have a pattern that can usually be figured out in a short time, but even with this advantage, the later encounters will most likely cost you a lot of continues. Each of the 16 stages usually has more than one boss, which means there will always be a challenge, but also that there are many opportunities to end up dead. It occasionally feels as if the game is being far too punishing, especially during the boss fights. While this does provide a classic arcade feel that many gamers will probably recognize and appreciate, it does make the game very difficult. Much like the enemies, all it takes it one hit to kill your ambitious alien counterpart. Each weapon and attack is not only satisfying and often humorous to watch, but you’ll learn quickly that all these abilities must be mastered if you want any chance of surviving Alien Hominid. If you are not having much luck above ground, you can burrow into the floor for a limited time and pull your enemies under for a quick stealth kill. This method is especially amusing since it causes any other enemy in the area to stop and stare in horror. You are able to jump on an enemy and either throw them into other hordes or simply bite their head off. Alternative ways to eliminate your foes are also available if you are looking for a more hands-on approach. Multiple power ups are also randomly scattered throughout each stage, which gives your blaster more damaging abilities, like ice that freezes your enemies or fire that burns them alive. Anyone unlucky enough to get hit by its projectile is dead in one hit. To accomplish your goal, you are given a blaster from the start that packs a significant punch. It’s your mission to find the missing spacecraft and kill hundreds of FBI, KGB, and Area 51 agents in the process. After crash landing in the middle of a city, the FBI charges in and confiscates his only way home. You assume the role of a small, cute alien that has his space ship shot down as he soars over Earth.
